A Spring Engagement Session at The Manor House, Castle Combe

There are few places in the Cotswolds quite as romantic as The Manor House in Castle Combe. With its honey-coloured stone architecture, winding gardens, historic staircases and perfectly manicured grounds, it feels as though it was designed for elegant engagement photography.

I recently spent the afternoon exploring the gardens with this lovely couple ahead of their wedding day, capturing a collection of relaxed, natural images amongst some of the most beautiful surroundings in the Cotswolds.

From quiet walks along the gravel pathways to hidden garden corners and sweeping views across the estate, every location offered something unique.

Why Choose The Manor House for an Engagement Session?

As a Cotswolds wedding photographer, I am always looking for locations that feel timeless, elegant and effortlessly romantic. The Manor House delivers all of those things.

Nestled in the heart of Castle Combe, often described as one of the prettiest villages in England, the venue offers:

  • Beautiful historic architecture
  • Formal gardens and topiary
  • Secluded pathways and hidden corners
  • Stunning stone staircases
  • A quintessential Cotswolds backdrop
  • Year-round beauty and seasonal interest

It provides an incredible variety of locations within a short walking distance, making it perfect for couples who want a gallery with lots of variety whilst keeping a cohesive, luxury feel.

A Relaxed Approach to Engagement Photography

One of the questions couples often ask before an engagement session is:

“What if we’re awkward in front of the camera?”

The truth is, almost every couple says this.

My approach is never about stiff posing or forced smiles. Instead, I guide you gently whilst encouraging natural movement and interaction. The result is imagery that feels authentic and reflective of your relationship.

During this session, we spent most of the time simply walking, chatting and enjoying the surroundings. The movement naturally created those relaxed moments that photograph so beautifully.

The flowing dress, soft neutral tones and understated styling complemented the historic setting perfectly, creating images that feel elegant without trying too hard.

The Beauty of Castle Combe

The Manor House is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the Cotswolds, and it’s easy to see why.

Surrounded by rolling countryside and centuries-old stone buildings, Castle Combe offers endless opportunities for beautiful photographs. Every turn reveals another picturesque view, whether that’s ivy-covered walls, historic architecture or perfectly maintained gardens.

For couples planning a wedding at The Manor House, Castle Combe, an engagement session here is also a wonderful opportunity to become familiar with the venue before the wedding day itself.

What to Wear for a Manor House Engagement Session

For couples planning their own engagement shoot, I always recommend keeping outfits simple and timeless.

Soft neutral colours, flowing fabrics and classic silhouettes work beautifully against the warm stone tones of the Cotswolds.

The styling for this session was a perfect example of this approach. The clean lines of the dress and neutral colour palette allowed the beautiful surroundings and genuine connection between the couple to remain the focus of the images.
