If you’re dreaming of a traditional church wedding with marquee reception, Sophie and Hugh’s day was the most perfect example of how timeless and joyful that combination can be.
From bridal preparations at home, to a beautiful church ceremony, a confetti-lined exit, river boat travel and an elegant marquee celebration — their wedding felt effortlessly classic from beginning to end.

One of my favourite parts of any traditional church wedding is when the morning begins at home.
Sophie got ready at her parents’ house, surrounded by family and her closest friends. There is something so special about a bride stepping into her dress in the home she grew up in — the familiarity, the emotion, the sense of history.
Her gown was timeless and elegant, with delicate lace sleeves and a flowing skirt that moved beautifully throughout the day. Once her veil was in place and bouquet in hand, she was ready to leave for the church.
Sophie travelled in a stunning vintage cream car — the epitome of classic English wedding style. The soft curves and polished chrome were the perfect match for a traditional church wedding setting.

The ceremony took place at St Nicholas Church in Remenham — a quintessential English church with flint stone walls and historic charm.
Traditional church weddings have such a unique atmosphere. The church was full, creating that wonderful sense of anticipation as guests waited for Sophie’s arrival. Hugh stood at the front, calm but clearly emotional, as the doors opened.
The vows, the hymns, the collective warmth of friends and family — this is exactly why church weddings remain such a timeless choice.

After the ceremony, guests gathered outside for a joyful confetti throw along the church path.
There is nothing quite like a confetti moment at a traditional church wedding — petals in the air, cheers from guests, and that unmistakable “just married” glow as the couple walk hand in hand into married life.

In keeping with the relaxed elegance of the day, guests boarded boats along the Thames to travel to the reception venue. Meanwhile, Hugh had earlier arrived at the church by boat with his groomsmen — stopping for a group photograph on the bridge, which perfectly captured their camaraderie and the spirit of the morning.
Sophie and Hugh later travelled separately by boat to the reception, creating a few peaceful moments together and some beautifully romantic portraits on the water.

The celebration continued with a marquee reception on the grounds of Greenlands Hotel — the perfect setting for a traditional church wedding with marquee reception.
Marquee weddings offer such versatility while keeping that elegant, classic feel. Set against sweeping lawns and surrounded by mature trees, there were endless beautiful spots for portraits.
The combination of formal church ceremony followed by relaxed marquee celebrations is always a favourite of mine — it blends tradition with atmosphere so effortlessly.
As the afternoon softened into evening, golden light filtered through the trees, guests mingled on the lawns, and the marquee filled with laughter, heartfelt speeches and dancing.

Sophie and Hugh’s wedding was a wonderful reminder of why this style of day remains so popular.
