One of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer is that no two love stories are ever quite the same.
For John and Sophie, their engagement session was part of a much bigger adventure.
Having travelled all the way from New York, the couple spent several days exploring the English countryside in search of the perfect venue for their future Cotswolds wedding. Between venue viewings and planning appointments, we met one spring morning at the beautiful ruins of Minster Lovell Hall to capture a few memories from this exciting chapter of their lives.
It felt like the perfect way to remember not only their engagement, but also the journey that would eventually lead them to their wedding day.

Tucked away amongst the Oxfordshire countryside, Minster Lovell Hall is one of the most unique engagement session locations in the Cotswolds.
The historic ruins, ancient stone walls and surrounding woodland create a setting that feels both romantic and timeless. Every corner offers something different, from dramatic architecture and hidden pathways to beautiful open spaces surrounded by nature.
For couples looking for engagement photos that feel relaxed, elegant and a little different, it is an incredible location.
The combination of history, texture and countryside views made it the perfect backdrop for John and Sophie’s session.

One of the things I loved most about this session was how naturally it unfolded.
There was no pressure to perform for the camera and no complicated posing. Instead, we simply explored the grounds together, stopping whenever the light or location caught our attention.
As we wandered through the ruins, talked about their wedding plans and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, the photographs naturally followed.
The historic stonework provided beautiful framing opportunities, while the open lawns allowed us to capture the scale and beauty of the venue itself.
The result was a collection of images that felt authentic, relaxed and completely reflective of who they are as a couple.

Planning a destination wedding is no small task, especially when you’re organising everything from another country.
For many international couples, visiting the Cotswolds before the wedding becomes an important part of the experience. It offers the opportunity to explore venues, meet suppliers and truly immerse yourselves in the atmosphere of the region.
John and Sophie’s visit was filled with exactly that.
Their engagement session became more than just a photoshoot; it became part of the story of how they planned their wedding together.
Years from now, these photographs will remind them not only of their engagement but of the excitement, anticipation and adventure of travelling from New York to find the place where they would begin married life.

The Cotswolds offers some of the most beautiful engagement session locations in the UK.
From historic ruins and charming villages to rolling countryside and grand manor houses, there is no shortage of stunning backdrops for couples wanting natural and meaningful photographs.
